. A scene of intense excitement took place in the House of Commons on the 22rid, when a motion was tabled to abrogate the Federal Franchise Act. The Government strongly opposed the motion, which ultimately was .tejeet.ed by. a majority of 27. On the decision being announced, the members of the Ministry and a number of their supporters sang " God Save the Queen."
