Mr Courtney.

*» A correspondent of the Chronicle, writing about meeting Mr Courtney at Aberdeen says : — " To my mind, if ever a man deserved credit for what he is doing, it is W. Courtney. He enters into his work with such enthusiasm and zeal. At any rate, it cannot be said him that he wastes much time. He really works i^d, and not without some little zdmesa too. So much for Mr W. Courtney. I think it will- be interesting to your readers to know that at last N. Z. butter has arrived in Aberdeen in good condition, and selling in large quantities at ls 3d per lb, it can be bought wholesale at £5 12s per cwt, is of excellent quality. Agood deal used to come here some time ago, bufc was never sold for eating purposes, it was generally soldto bakers or biscuit factories for making pasjiry or biscuits, at of course a very low figure. One small grocer in the Yellowgate, a place that will be wellknown to your Aberdeen readers, told me the other day that he alone sold a cwt oi N.Z. butter in a week ; what was more,, mopt of this was sold in 2oz, 4oz, and'goz lots. : It will just show how many families even in this " northern city cold " are using N.Z. butter; and whai is better, pronouncing it to be of excellent quality. '•••■ .••-.•>. '.---yA Gear's N,Z. meat is very popular iv Aberdeen.' I was told by one of the largest merchants here, that just now it is not to be got except at a very high price. Australian compressed beef can be bought wholesale at, -5£4 per, ty jn (fy „ tinsCorned beef is lriupfi dearer.' * 1 haye tasted both kinds. ; I think they J aYe very good, but there' seemed I ' to'^be something wanting, ; not enough of gravy br something of that kind. Nearly all the grocers' twine used here, too, is made of N.Z. hemp, or whatever twine is made out of. All these things cannot but call attention to the colony, and do a vast amount of good in the long run.
