A GIANT OF THE FOREST.
There is an enormous tree In the Ocmulgee river swamp, Georgia, that rivals the igllamous giants of the California^ forests. It Is of the tupelo gum variety, and towers 'above the surrounding forest of immense oaks. It is evidently cf great age, and •doubtless was inhabited by the Indians in {the prehistoric age. The tree is hollow at the base, with an aperture large enough tc admit a tall man. The hollow extends upwards for a distance of 15ft., affording space enough for two storeys, and measures at the 'base 12ft, in diameter. ;
