Wirikino Road Board.

♦_ — The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Board's office at Levin on Saturday at 10.80 a.m. Present — Messrs J. Davies (chairman), Kebbell, Wallace, (Jas-^A coigne and Staff. { \». ■ The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following resolutions were passed : — That the Board will allow the gate to be re-erected by Mr Gardner provided that the consent of the unjoining owners nnd others In,

terested on each side of the road be obtained. That leave be given to Messrs Prou.se Brothers to fence across the Arapaipai road between their sections 83 and 35 Levin Block, provided that a gate be erected at each end of v*he road line and that these gates - remain during the pleasure of ths Board. That Mr Scott report on the drainage on the Kereru road whether it is possible at a reasonable cost to take the water down the side of the road instead ot through Messr.s Pascals' property. Also that he report, on .the work required to form a cart road on railway terrace Ohau. That notice be sent to James Smith, Shannon road to take away the gate and fence erected by him on the road. That the Chairman be instructed to reply to Mr Hankins' letter re the drains on Shannon road. That tha Engineer be instructed to take the levels and prepare a scheme for dealing with the stream at Shannon, and also to employ any professional assistance he may deem necessary if required. Plans and specificatioas to be in by the next meeting of the Board." That Mr Scott's report be adopted. That Mr Thynne be informed that the Board are unable for a time to comply with his request for a share of the advertising, being under agree* ment with Mr Smith of the Manawatu Times. That the request of C. Rowes be neoeeded to and the matter be loft: in ili^ hands of Wurden Stall". TlniL in the opinion of tliis l>o;ir<l. should Parliament i/i justice to the ratepayers decide that land owned by Natives shall pay local rates, it ' would be advisable when default is made in the payment of the rates that the Local Bodies should have power to lease the laud, and not to sell, and that the present law allowing European lanch to be sold when the rates are in default should be amended so that Local Bodies should be empowered to lease only, thus having the same law for both races. That Wardens Davies and Wallace be authorised to sign rate book for current year. That Mr Scott be instructed to call tenders for metalling 10 chains on the Horowhenua road. Tenders to be in by next meeting. That the Clerk write to Messrs Crowther and James Smith and ask them to keep their pigs from trespassing on the roads, or in default to be held liable for all damage resulting thereby. That the services of a dray and man be engaged at 9s per day for W^. -on the Shannon river road That the following sections now standing in the name of F. J. Stucky in the rate book be transferee! as follows : — viz, Rural section 48 and Suburban section 9 to Ellen Stucky ; Suburban sections 30 and 81 to Fredrick G. A. Stuckey, and Suburban section 10 to Harry Walter Stuckey. That the | of a penny in the pound on the rateable value of all property in the Wirokino Road Board, of which due notice has been given be now struck and confirmed. Accounts amounting to £805 15s were passed for payment.
