Election of School Committees.

« The latest act for the election of School Committees has abolished the old method and substituted another and more cumbrous process. The Board of Education has already given notice of the date of election, and householders must, on or before the third Monday in this month, send written nominations of persons to serve on the committee, which the chaiiman displays on the outer door of the school-house. In Boroughs it is enacted, that if more than the number required are nominated, the committee shall cause a ballot-box to be placed in the school-house on the morning of the date of the meeting, in which voters shall place a paper or letter, signed with their names, and attested by a J.P. postmaster or schoolmaster. In the evening, those who have not previously voted will have ballot-papers supplied to them. It is not legal to give more than one vote for each candidate. If not sufficient names have been nominated, the meeting is to be called to nominate for the vacancies. In country schools a ballot-box is not necessary, but any voter can send direct to the chairman, his voting paper duly attested. The nomination of candidates must be in the form prescribed by the Act, and must be signed by nominator and candidate.
