c ixth — The s Accumulated Fund was increased during the year by the sum of £742,311 equal to 71 per cent of the gross premiums received. Seventh— The deaths among h'yes assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---©76, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. EiGinn— The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth— The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £436,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,OOO,OCO in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. It has divided among the members c ash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding re-vf-rsionnry additions of over £8,000,000.
