Fixth The Accumulated Fund was increased during the year by the sum o f £742,3X1 equal to 71 per cent of the gross premiums received. Seventh — The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amonnjbig to £299,602, irrespective JHbnus additions, while the nutnfier ejected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth— The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth— The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives oE deceased members over £4,---000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. It has divided among the members j < ash bonuses aggregating over ' £4,000. y OOO, yielding re--1 versionary additions of over £8,000,000.
