" General " Booth and his Scheme.

General Booth opened, on Friday (30th January), receiving-house for discharged prisoners at 80, Argylesquare, King's Cross, and which is to be called the ' ' Bridge. ' ' A gloom was thrown over the ceremony by the sudden death of Mr G. Fleming, one of the subscribers to the "Darkest England" Fund, to the extent of £2,000. He fell dead while addressing the company assembled in the hall which is to serve as a workshop. Later in the evening, at St James's Hall, it was announced that in cash and promises £102,559 had been contributed to carry out the scheme, and the " general " attached his signature to a Trust Deed, which declares that these funds shall not be used for the general purposes of the Salvation Army, but for the social and moral ■ regeneration and improvement of persons needy, destitute, degraded, or criminal. The " general " is to , be the director and trustee, and the i scheme may be modified with the • consent of the majority of two-thirds of a committee.
