Fatal Accident at the Lion Foundry.
» A terrible acbident, which unfortunately ended fatally, occurred at the Lion Foundry yesterday shortly after the men had commenced work. Mr G, McKenzie, the foreman ofthe works, while going up a ladder in the centre of the building, missed his footing, and in falling clutched hold of the endless wire rope, which was in motion. The unfortunate man was drawn along the building and dashed against the office with terrible force, , and fell on the floor apparently lifeless. Medical aid was at once obtained, and Dr Collins ordered the poor fellow's removal to the Hospital. He was placed in a vehicle for that purpose, but before reaching the institution Mr McKenzie succumbed to his injuries. Deceased, who was a native of Greenock, was 45 years of age, a married man with a family of five children. He came out to New Zealand as engineer of the steamer Stella, and latterly was foreman of the Lion Foundry. His life was insured in the Government office for £500. An inquest will be held at the morgue this morning. — N.Z, Times,
