The County Loan.

» On Saturday the Manawatu County take a Vote .as to the feelings of the i-atepayers In regard to the proposed borrowing of £1156, the particulars bf which Have been .duly advertised. The works are of an important nature and at the last poll secured the approval of every resident that voted, and this just where the trouble arises. The Acts relating to loans, as we have previous shown, are so hedged about with precautions that a public body has great difficulty in fcarry any measure however useful it -may be. A poll necessitates that reveryone favourable to the scheme should attend and vote, otherwise their action is as good as voting against it. The progress of any adjoining district must be to the adVatitage of its neighbour, and though the loan is tor expenditure in the Manawatu County, and there is no proposal to spend money in the Awahou Riding, still the Awahou j ratepayers will have no special rates to pay, and we think that those who have property in the rateable district of the* loan, and reside around here, should mabe an effort to show that they will lend a helping hand at the time when it is needed. A polling glace has been fixed at the Oroua Downs, therefore the distance is not far. We have been given to understqnd that the following settlers have votes, and they are earnestly requested to exercise the same, viz. : Messrs T. Easton, J. H. Robinson, .'ohn Carter, J. W. Gower, and Mrs Purcell. _______
