Manukau.
(from our own correspondent. ) Manukau appears to be in >a flourishing condition as two hotels are shortly to be erected, one in fact being in the course of erection now. Judging from the appearance of the frame work, it appears to be a building of considerable size. It is being erected by our enterprising storekeeper, Mr Tompsitt, who apparently has faith in the prosperity of the place. It is also rumoured that another shop will shortly be opened. The appearance of settlement is rapidly improving since the expenditure of the money borrowed by the Otaki Road Board has commenced. The district will soon be well provided with good roads. • A Small Farm Association has been formed, but as only the preparatory steps have been taken in the matter there is nothing to report. A change has lately taken place/ in the school staff, Miss Howan being removed to Eereru. On her departure she was the recipient of a handsome present and an address. The vacancy has not yet been filled. I understand thai a sohool is to be #re«tfld »t Ohftti riiortty,
