Manawatu County Council.
♦ . KEPORT ON COUNTY AND DISTRICT ROADS. Between Awahuri and Feilding there has been a bridge repaired during the month. There will be needed on the road, 100 yards ot metal for patching. Between Awahuri and the township of Sanson there has been nothing done, during the month there will be needed, for this p'ace 200 yards for patching. Between Sanson and the Rangitikei bridge there has been nothing done during the month, this place will require 150 yards for patching. Between Sanson and Campbelltown there will be needed 150 yards for patching. Between Campbelltown station and Milner's line there has been a culvert repaired. Mr Anderson the contractor for metalling on this piece has not signed this contract, neither has Thomas Coker which is the next lowest tender. T. Coker has not signed on account of Mr Ralston not letting him come through his ground. Between Milner's line and Carnarvon junction I have employed horses and drays and filled up the bad hole and clayed the same about 6 chains on this piece. Between Carnarvon junction and Foxton there has been nothing done during the month, the metal part of this will need 200 yards of metal to patch up the same. The metal for patching the above stated roads ; tenders should be called for next meeting. Between the Foxton Sandon road and the Oroua Bridge a distance of about 8 miles ; I have been examining this road and find that the road needs patching generally all along the line with black soil and clay. As there is still £60 due to this piece in the present year I think it would be wise to employ horses and carts at once and expend the same by day labour, in carting to fill and soil these places, which will need carts to do so, after which a man should be put on constant to get this road in order. I think if this was done it would comply with the wants of the settlers living along the road. Messrs Rickman and Rugstead have completed their contract for delivery of metal on the Campbelltown Longburn.and Banks road. The report on the district roads was not of much importance. Be Ferry — Mr Howe complained of the uneven grade of the cutting and he offered to metal the cutting, the approach to the ferry, which is 2 chains long, 12 feet wide 6 inches deep providing the Council does the grading. We could let the same to a man for £4 10s. The roads generally in this Riding are in fair order. Thomas Mitchell.
