PAID IN HIS OWN COIN.

A quarrel once took place between Raphael Felix, the brother ol the celebrated Mdme. Rachael, and the actor Brindeau, when the latter so far forgot his dignity as to give his youthful comrade a sound box on the ear. ' As a necessary consequence, arrange* ments for a meeting on the following day were made and the seconds chosen. ;. Brindeau, however, thinking on reflection that he might have possibly gone too far, despatched one of his seconds early next morning to his adversary with a letter of apology.. After carefully perusing it, the recipient replied that he would be found in the Bois de Boulogne at the appointed hour, and declined giving any further answer. ■ B^pth parties were punctual at the rendezvous, and, on the appearance of his antagonist, Raphael, stepping forward, addressed him as follows — " Monsieur, I have received your letter and am perfectly willing to accept the apology you offer, neither wishing to kill you nor to be killed by you, but you will allow me first to ask a cjutistion. Suppose that you were in my place, would you, after a similar affront, consider yourself satisfied with a similar excuse ?" "Certainly," replied Brindeau. " You are quite sure ?" 11 Quite." " Delighted to hear it !" coolly retorted Raphael, at the same time administering to jis astonished opponent a vigorous cufl with one hand and with the other presenting aim with a copy of his own letter.
