CORRESPONDENCE.
r We are not responsible for the statemens or opinions of correspondents. (to the editob or the manawatu herald.) Snt^The following figures on flax are worth digesting : — Exports from all ports of New Zealand for 6 months ending June, 1890—14,925 tons. For 6 months ending December, 1890—6,225 tons Total— 2l,lso teas. To London — f months ending June, 1890 — 5 bales. o months ending December, 1890 1 12,240 bales. To America — 6 months ending June, 1890 — 20,015 bales 0 months ending December, 1890 —19,581. Wellington, for the year, exported—66,Bß7 bales AH other ports together — 41,814. From late English advices I find adding the average for December month, not yet to hand — Deliveries in London for year ending 1 1889—7000 tons ; 1890—9,600 tons. ' Taking the total tonnage to England for 6 months ending June, 1890-9,968 tons. 6 months ending December, 1890—2448 tons. Total —12411. And the delivery at 16,600 tons would show a surplus beyond requirements for the year of over 4000 tons, but taking the half year ending December—Consumption (still growing) at say 5000 tons, consequently 2,500 tons deficiency. (With these figures before them, fiaxmillers need not lose hope, and should not be fools to throw away their flax at ruinous prices. Comments further are unnecessary by me. — I' am, Ac, Robert Gardneb. Paiaka, Feb. 19, 1891.
