London. The Queen pays a visit to Grasse, in the south of France,' 16 miles north of Cannes, at the end of March and will make a short stay there. The man Saddler, who is in custody on suspicion of having committed the last Whitechapel murder, is now supposed to be " Jack the Ripper," and a knife, which it is believed he used, has been found. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 17th inst : — Wool — Since the opening of the sales superior greasy and scoured merino, fine greasy crossbred have advanced £d per lb. Medium and inferior greasy and scoured merino, medium and inferior merino lambs have declined £d per lb. Other descriptions unchanged. Competition by both Home and Foreign buyers are operating with confidence. Up to date 223,000 bales have been sold. Owing to the dockers refusing to discharge. the steamer Matatua, from New Zealand, the butchers are discharging her meat under police protection. The dookers also refused to discharge the Australian steamers Almora and Taroba. The railwaymen, carmen, and lightermen, have agreed not to handle goods consigned to boycotted firms. The coalheavers at Cardiff, despite the entreaties of the other men, have determined to return to work. Riggers, boatmen, and others engaged in waterside pursuits at Cardiff have gone out on strike as an expression of sympathy with the dockers, seamen, and coalheaveis. It is feared that the railway men will follow suit.
