All Sairts Church.
» A meeting of the parishioners of the above church was held on Thursday evening last. The Rev Inr.esJones presided, and there was a very fair attendance. The chairman explained that the meeting had beea called for the purpose of electing Church-wardens and a Vestry. For some time past, owing to the absence of a clergyman, they had been going along in rather a slip-shod fashion, and it was absolutely necessary, to enable the affairs of the church to be conducted in a proper and constitutional manner, that there should be a Vestry and he read clauses of the Church Act bearing upon the matters, Owing, doubtless, as he remarked, to the fact tha-. the district had been without a Curate for two years, the clauses of the Act referred to had not been studied at all and there was a general tendency throughout the district to ignore the Curate. Ha felt thankfnlfor what had been done in the part of the Church officers, and he did not for one moment wieh to throw any blame upon these gentlemen, who deserved every credit for their eff -rfcs. Still it would be much more satisfactory to h ive a Vestry, and th< n everything w ud be done in a proper manner. He regretted he had no statement of accounts to lay before the meeting, but he understood that the assessment was paid up, £10 had been devoted to the liquidation of of the Church debt (which now stood at only £25) and th.-re was a sum of £2 to the cred't of the Church accou-.t This, the chairman remarked, would, he thought be consi le:ed very satisfactory by the nveting. The Curate thru expressed his wish lo appoint Mr J. .W. Stewart as his Churchwarden. Mr Stewart said it was doubtful how long he would remain in the district, but ho would act f>r the time beiug. On the motion of Mr Startup, Mr A. S. Easton was elected Parishoners Churchwarden. The following were elected a Vestry : — Messrs Wilson, Startup, Rhodes, Robinson, Russell, T. Easton and Little. Messrs Nixon and Fraser, were appointed Auditors. Some disscussion upon minor matters took place, and the meeting then adjourned. Considerable interest was taken in the proceedings, and tho meeting may be described asthe nv-st satisfactory one in connection with tLe affairs of the Church for some time past.
