Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held at the Library building last night. P)'G-ent— -The Mayor s Oi's Jenks, Jbiiso'ii, Austin, ilrid Nye; TW minutes of the previous mooting were read and confirmed, Correspondence — Inwards . From J. Hillary offering to do certain work at Wirokino ferry. Proposed by Cr Nye, seconded by Cr Austin, That J. Hillary's tender be accepted for spreading 30 yards of gravel, also shifting Mr Gower's gate, and improving approaches to J the ferry for the sum of two pounds four shilling?. Cr Nye said that ho hal looked over the work and had asked Mr Hillary for an offer. He thought the Council would not get it done cheaper by any one else. The motion being put was carried. REPORTS. The report of the committee re-ac-cepting tenders for gravelling, and Avenue bridge was confirmed. Crs Nye, Jonson andJenks presented a report recommending the granting of a site for a mill to Mr Speirs. Proposed by Cr Nye, seconded by Cr Jenks, That flax mill site on Harbour Street be granted to Mr Spiers in ,accordance with the committee's report for the sura of £5, to be paid in advance, for one year. Cr Nye said he could not see why any objection should be raised to M r Bpeirs getting this site. It was all for the good of the town. He thought we should all do what we could as a Council to encourage the trade of the place. Mr Speirs would have to understand we only granted him a site on the street, no further. Cr. Austin said he agreed with all of Ors Nye's remarks. He objected to the sum named for rent, £ 5, but would not press it. He thought the site was worth ±'20 a year. The motion was carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Jenks, That it bo a instruction to the Public Works committee to notify Messrs Coley and Dradcock to protect with fascines any cutting made by them in snch a manner as , to protect private property from any encroachment therefrom. The Mayor said he looked uponjthis as a most important matter and he thought it was a matter that should ' be attended to at once. ' The motion was carried. ' Proposed by Cv Austin seconded 1 by Cr Nye, That this Council hold - , its meetings on Monday afternoons fctj^etook,— Carried, j l^Bjijfe^by Cr Jenks seconded by ! Cr That Mr B. Gray be instvfmed to at onoe erect gate on reserve boundary. 1 Cr Jenks pointed out that Mr ' Gray had removed the old gate and ] neglected to put a new one. The 1 trees planted have been mostly ' destroyed owing to such action. The resolution was carried. ' . On motion, leave of absence was was granted to Cr McMillan for this meeting.' * Proposed by Cr Nye seconded, by l Or Austin. That Mr 0, Spring the sexton be asked to remove all toppings from the trees in the cemetery. To be removed at once.-^Carried. ' The following aooounts were passed :— J. Sullivan, £6 6s ; T. F. < Gibson, £5 ; J. Hillary, £3 ; B. J Spelraan, £2 Is 3d; N. Z. Eys, £ Cr Andrew Jonson's tendered his < written resignation.
