The Premier promised Mr Joyce that he would obtain from the AgentGeneral all available information as to the best method of securing better markets in Europe for New Zealand frozen meat. The Minister of Public Works informed Dr Newmau that he believed the opening of the Manawatu Gorge Railway would take place on or about Tuesday, the 10th day of February. The Premier stated thai it was the intention of the Government during the i\cess to proceed with the work of classifying the Civil Service, and endeavour next session to introduce a Bill to give effect to it and in reply to Mr T. Thompson said the question of the who'e incidence of taxation would be considered by the Government, but. he oould not now promise definitely that the property tax would be abolished. . NEW BILLS. Mr RJleston moved as an amendment, " That after the words ' serious consideration,' in the last paragraph but one, to insert : —To assure yonr Excellency that the adjournment of the House for a suitable recess instead of its formal prorogation, will be in the interests of due economy, and will save an expenditure in payments to members which would not be justified by the time occupied in dealing with the business whioh is proposed to be submitted to us during the present sitting.""
