About a mile from the centre of this town is ft beautiful sheet of of water six hundred acres in extent, called lake "Wendouree.a'ud the gardens which are very well kept and beautifully laid out adjoin. Naturally such a large sheet of water is a very great attraction to the inland town, and though .always in existence, has been artificially improved and beautified. It has now always from four to six foot of wafcei-, steamers ply upon it carrying excursionists, and boats are thjere for sailing and pulling. laTarids, planted, are dotted about tnKlake, and a pretty carriage drive winds around its borders. It will be a great loss if the locusts destroy so much att nud labour
