His coat glossy in the sunshine of the benutiful suuamar's morning, as he paraded j the ring. The bidding for him started at four thousand guineas, an j offer made on behalf of Mr ,T. B. Hoggen, of (.alifornian, the ownei' of Sir Modr m], Mr Oro. ier, of South Australi. . advanced 300 guineas; and the figures quick'}- .van up in one J hundred gtlr.ea bPs uutil Mr Oozier retired at five thousand fiv. hundred guineas, and Mr Day, representing Mr S. Hordern, who is forming a stud farm in New South Wales secured the horse at five thou, and six hundred guineas Au Auckland syndicate wished to purchase Nordenfeldt, but it is believed they retired from the bidding at 4500 guineas After a little brisk competition Mr L D. Nathan, of Whitford Park, purch: sed St Leger for 400 guineas. Mr Morrin. proprietor of the Wellington Park stud, secured Hotobkiss a fine looking horse by Musket from Petrolouse, for 350 guineas, and there w"S applause when he also ...bought the brood mares Sy'via, dam of Martini Henri, Onyx, dam of Nordenfeldt. For Fl rence Macartiiy, dam of Tirailleur, bidding started at 50 guineas, and went on till Mr Gollan waa declared the purchaser at 400 guineas Mr Morrin secured a great bargain in Steppe, which he bought for 200 guineas. There was spirited competition for yearlings. The highest priced was a colt by Nordenfeldt— Nellie Moore, a wellshaped and powerful looking youngster, which beoame the property of Mr Gollan. at 1050guineas. Another j oolt by Nordenfeldt — Florence | McCarthy, olosely related to Tirail- ! leur, yes the centre of brisk bidding and was a'so purchased by Mr Gollan for 950 guineas.
