A County Council to be Sold Cheap.

is i leap. ♦ The troubles of local bodies are numerous. For some reason, not clearly set forth, it appears as though the Horowhenua Council have been straying from the right path. It is but lately that the Council appointed Bangers to roam and impound straying catt'.e and therefore it is outfitting that they should meet their fate in the same manner. In Monday's Manawatu Times an advertisement issued by the Horowhenua County Council, and signed by Mr Kebbell as Chairman, appears, in which is stated the intention of that Council to made a special rate &c, and immediately under the signature appears tho following notification : — interest be paid out of the loan. JOHN KEBBEIL. Chaiiman Horowhenua County Council. If not claimed and all expenses paid, to be sold on Tuesday, January 33th, 1891, at twelve o'clock, noon. FRANCIS HAINES, Poundkeeper. Palmerston North, December 29th, 1890. As it would be a melancholy commencement of the New Year to have even the Chairman of a County sold, it would be more so if the result should be the whole Council, and we must therefore hope that the ratepayers will make a strenuous efforfc to claim their Chairman and Council and pay all their expenses— for if they do not, we do not know who wili. Putting kindly consideration* aside, it would be interesting if the sale took place, io that the money value of public men might be real. ilflCl)
