French Warship Volta.

After a few clay's stay she proceeded to Akaroa, and then on to Lyttolton. She is a vessel of 1200 tons register, and carries a crow of 1 i)G men, all told. Her engines are 400 h.p., and she is estimated to steam 15 knots an hour. Her armament, which is of the latest type, comprises six 1 Jinguns, six revolving guns, and one traversing gun. The 'Volt a is under the command of M. le Capitaino Huguet. M. Blaise is lieutenant do vaisseau (aud second in command) ; M. le Bahonis gunnery officer, M. do Pame navigating officer, and M. Perrut olfrc: rof marines. The aspirants (or midshipmen) of the first class aro M. ]siiksou, Joqnemart, Chf'Vonard, and Done. M. Aubbry is surgeon-major, and tie paymaster and purser is M. Prydessis. The Volta took a prominent part* in the bombardment of Foechow in 1884, during the Franco-Chinese war, being used by the Admiral of the fleet owing to the flagship being too large to proceed up the Mm rivov -Post
