The Hutt Stabbing Affair.
ACQUITTAL OP THE CHINAMEN. At 10 o'clock on Wednesday morning the jury, who had been locked up all night, were brought into courr, and informed the Chief Justice that they were still unable to aiiree, and they were accordingly discharged from farther service until 10 o'clock the next morning. Mr Gully informed His Honor that he was prepared to re-tr} p the case at once, nnd the following new jury were empanelled : — Mr George Seager (foreman), Messrs W. Rirkus W. Lukins, G. Spicer, A. Gyles, R. F. Warnngton. W. F. Smart, M. Hawthorne, H. Walters, J 0. Llerenshaw, C. Edwards, and W. G. Grant. Mr Gully prosecuted on behalf of the Crown as previously, nnd Sir Rohert Stout defended the a'cused. The evidence adduced was the same as that given on the first day. At ha'f-past 4 o'clock the jury re tired, and atter a deliberation of three-quarters of ;.n hour returned with a verdict of not guilty. The prisoners were then discharged. The other Chinaman, Young Bin. was then placed in the dock, and the jury were formally sinpanneHcd, and as the Crown i.ffoivd no evidence the accused was discharged.
