The General Election.
Majority r 'or Wilson, til votes. , Everyone will be glad to learn that Sir Harry Atkinson has been returned with a majority of 300. Also Captain Russell with a majority of 500. Mr Richardson * and Mitcholson have also been returned. Not much regret will he experienced in learning that Mr Hislop Ims been defeated. Mr Mills defeated Mr J. A. Millar for Port Chalmers, thus providing- a fitting sequel to the labour strike. Ironsand Smith, has been returned for Now Plymouth. Mr Ballance just squeezed in for "Wanganui by 27 and Mr Scobie Mackenzie has ousted the veteran Pyke. We regret to learn that the Speaker, Sir Maurice O'Rorke has been defeated by Mr Buckland. Mr Harkness has been returned for Nelson, Mr Mills for the Waimea. Mr Buchanan for tho Wairarapa. Mr Hogg has beaten Mr Beetham. The following gives the state of poll for "Wellington :-- Fisher " 2851 Duthie 2785 Macdonald 2198 Bell 2305 Jellicoe 1920 Fraser 1 762 McLean 10G7 Winter 722 There has been great difficulty in getting returns in from Rangitikei, and the numbers given in the >i. Z. Times are not correct, nor is Mr Arkwright returned. Ip to eleven o'clock this morning Mr Macarthur was 11 ahead. (Since the above was in type we learn that Mr Macarthur has been returned by a majority of 35.) The result of the elections make the Ministerialists returned 32, Doubtful 5, Oppositionists 37.
