Mh Joh.y Strykns addressed a large meeting of the electors in tho school liou^e Shannon, on Saturday list. Mr Gascoigne was voted to the chair and introduced the candidate in a few suitable remarks. Mr Stevens w.;s received with applause and listened to attentively to the conclusion of the address A large number of qinstions w^re asked and the replies gave general satisfaction. The meeting accorded the candidate a vote ot thinks and confidence. The supporters of Mr Stevens consider that this meeting created a most . favourable impression and numbers offered him their support and promised to work actively to secure his return. Mr Stevens' chances ar« considered to be very good a reversion having set in Mr Stevens addressed tho electors at Wbitniore where he had an enthusiastic reception and received a vote of thanks and confidence without opposition. Mr Stevens speaks at Manukau tomorrow and Otaki on Thursday. Mr Pirani appears to . have refrained from courting further pub icity. When he criticised Mr Wilson ; e manifesto, he threatened to do the same with Mr Stevens' speech directly after he had spoken, but as yet no public report of his having done so has appeared. Probably the result of his first attempt has shown iiiin tli e folly cf attacking better men in pub'.ic lite ti.an bimse.f. Mr J. G. Wilson speaks at Palmorston tonight, and Foxton on Friday.
