Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held at tho Librniy buildings last night at 7 p.m. Pivseut — I'he Mayor and (jrs McMillan, Nye. Jenks, Jonaon and Williams. The minutes of the last meeting were read aud confirmed. The Mayor mentioned that he had seen Mr Hillary about repair of boat. The Clerk stated that he had seen Mrs Williams and had enquired into her circumstances. She had one cow in milk and one dry. She had no property, but lived rent free. He reported that it was a case of actual poverty. He had made some provision for her. COimESruIsDKNCE. From Thomas Danks, giving cost of boring, his price being for a steam plant and toals necessary 40s per working day, 10s per day during transit, and 12s a day for mechanic. In additi m the assistance of one man and one boy and 1£ cwt of coa's p3r day would be needed. From Inspector of Police re conveyance of destitute pprson3 to hospital. From P. Hennessey requesting repair to Avenue road opposite his premises. The Mayor &aid the report from the Inspector of Police should n^t be pa-eed over. Ho had askod distinctly whose duty it is to take persons to the ho>pit 1. H<; supposed that wo are to understand that we must be answerable. The oh t members seemed to think so also. The Committee appointed to report on tho planting on the reserve Cr Nye reported two thirds of the trees were alive. That the planting had been done according to arrangement. Mr Flan key having sent n package of grass seed, Sullivan had sown it. Proposed by the Mayor seconded byCr Jenks, That Mr Hillary's offer of £2 for old punt now lying at Wiriiiino be accepted, consout from the Horowhenua Council having been received from Mr J. Davios — carried. Tho following tender was received from Mr b Ho wan for the Cemetery Reserve at £5 a year, for one year. The tender was accepted. WAT R SITPLY. The question of water supply was again discussed, ond a lull report will appear in our next issue. Proposed hy the Major, seconded by Cis McMillan, That this Council adopt culvert according to No. 2 plan for replacing the Avenue bridge and thai necessary timber be ordered. The Mayor said that the No 2 scheme of Mr Nye's plans was tho cheapest. The dry weather was now coming on, it might bo done. The resolution was carried. Proposed by OMcMillan, seconded by Cr Williams, That that portion i of tho Moutoa road opposite Torr's property he repaired — c/iriiod. Tho following accounts were passed for pa>. ment : J.
