J.P., in the absence of Mr Thynne. the Coroner of the district, conducted h° enquirv and r'onstah e I'app r^presen'ed the police Thp iuvy comprised Messrs Gascoine, (foreman) Lee, Bradley, Punch, Yoysev, and Su ! lavan. Eyidnnco was given by Franl< Goodey to the effect tint about 5 30 p.m. on Sunday, the 12th inst, the doceased, who over fourteen years of age, was sent to water a horse at tho river ; that the horse afterwards retnrnpd riderless, and with signs of having been swimmin in the river ; tha'- a search showed the animal had been plunging in the s ft. mud, a d 't wa< supposed that in the struggle the horse had gone over the sh* lf into deep water. The father of the unfortunate lad, who is ■\ b >ar 'ing- house keepor Palmerston, identified the remains as those of his late son, and in his evidence seated he had no rei«on to be ieve that the boy's death had been other than the result of an accident. The jury returned a verdict of ' found drowned." and the remains were afterwards convoyed to Pal me.sion by rail for interment.
