Saved by a Pig.
An extraordinary story reached ! Albury (says the Sydney Morning Herald) from a man named Edward i Thompson, formerly a resident of j this town, but now einp'oyed in tank ; sinking in the Dubbo district, i Thompson, it appears, was camped j with his wife and two young children ■ in tbo bush. The elder of the j children who is three years old, had been in the habit of playing with a pet pig One morning the child was missed, and a search was forthwith j instituted, the father and some other men scouring the bush in all directions ; the search party continued their labours all day and the whole night wichout coming upon any trace of the missing infant, and in view of the very inclement weather of late prevailing, small hopes were entertained of finding the child alive, early ne^t morning, however, the searchers were rewarded by the discovei*y of the child being quite comfortably asleep on a bed ot leaves, evidently made by the pig under a hop bu&h. The pig was near tbe child, and seemingly on guard over it, aa it resented in a very practi al fashion any attempt to interfere with its charge ; and it was with some difficulty that the father succeeded in obtaining possession of the youngster. Finally, when the father rode away homeward with the child in his arms, the pig followed at the horses heels nil the way back to the camp.
