Tea Meeting.

Tbi tea and public meeting in the Primitive Methodist Church on Tuesday evening last was an unqualified Buccesß. Although the weather was 6hoirery, the public turned up in large numbers, about 150 sitting down to tea. The tables were filled and cleared several times, and the try wan "still they come," but, the ladies were equal to the occasion, and abundantly supplied the wants of all visitors. The tea was provided by the ladies of the congregation, and the (o lowing presided at the tables, Mesdamea Austin, McLean, Oilbon, Nrwth, Osborne, Walsh, and W. Small, and Mis3es (lower, Gibson, Spring, Langley, Austin, Howan, and Newth, . Mr Taylor of Wellington took the chair at the public meeting and congratulated the con gregation on having a minister stationed in their midst, and on the successful way in which the work of the ohurch was carriad on. Mr R, McLean gave the report of the quarter, in his usual happy style ; and was phased to report that the reaeipU had more than met expenditure. Mr Raine, Home Missionary from Otaki, next addressed the meeting ; he spoke of the need of harmony and unity in ohurch work, and pointed out the foolishness of parsons being easily offended Mr Gower, gave a timely and spirited utteranoe on the subject of " Unions," and Mr Howan struck a note of gladness over th« good work of tht past quarter, making Eptcial reference, and giving haarty praise to the ladies for their willing work The Rev. J. Olphert gave an address on " Hearers," and worked out the subject ■nder th« different heads of " critical, •leepy, wandering and hungry hearers," to , the evident amusement and gratification of tht audience. The choir, under the leadership of Mr C. Osb»rne and with Mr Coe at the organ, interspersed the addresses with suitable singing ; a duet was also contributed by the Misssß H. and F.
