A Modern Condemnation to the Stake.
In 1865, after th? C, up d'eMafc and Eevro.u ioi iv Spain. Fianeisco De Paa a Ruefc, a son of a Major of the Cantabrian Fusiliers, became the first Spanish preacher of the Gospel. He commenced his labours in Bar c lona. The Eoman Catholic Bishop of Barcelona summoned this apostate son of the church to appear before his holy court. Ru. t refuse 1, and wai in consequence condemned to die at the stake. Fortunately the Ecclesiastical Court had not power to carry out the sentence, and It net lived to spread the doctrines of the reformation, and preached in a chapel in the Calle Cahtrara in Madrid for man> year 3 prior to his death.
