• Thf. proprietors of the three daily Wellington paoers have received tlie following; letter, signed hv the Secretary of the Federated Wharf Labourers : — " I am instructed by the General Committee of the Maritime and Trade and Labour Unions, to lei n ell v request that you will withdraw the Union Company and Union advertisements during the present labour crisis. The cornrai'tpe further reque-t that you will furni-h truth.' fnl and impartial reports of d^velopements of the labour trouble, such re 1 ports to be obtainpd from official poui'cpb. An ft.ir'y reply wi'l oblige. (Sicned) Eobhrt Sbmour, Secretary." The proprietors of all three papers are unanimous in resenting this lettei as an unwarrantable interference with the liberty of the press. Th( Post, Prpss, and the Times published sirong remonstrances, absolutely de^ clinine to accede to the request, oi to accept in any way the restriction! sought to be imposed on the conduct of their business.
