London. The potato disease lias made its appearance in Ayrshire. Phylloxera has appeared in the Marine and Rhine districts. The potato disease is spreading in Ireland, and it is estimated the yield will on\y ho one-fourth of the average, nnd fears of a famine . are increasing. The Public Works Department have been requested to afford relief. The new Board of tho Bank of New Zealand has been constitued as fo lows : — Colonel Baring, Messrs John A. Ewan, Herbert Fison, Richard Gljn, Thomas Stewart, the '"Hit Hon. Anthony J. Mundella, and Sir James Feryusson. Rioting, followed by a strike, has occurred among^fcft workmen at the quarries on Mr Parnell's estate.
