The Flax Committee's Report.
« BONUS OF £10,000 RECOMMENDED. Tiie following is the text of the re port of the Fiax Commits to the House : — That tho Committee recommends th* Government to offer a bonus of £10,000 for the improvement of Flax Dreeing upon the following eondi tions. 1. Anyone applying for the whole or any portion of the bonus mvs r snbmit his proops-s to be tested before three Commissioners, who shall be apnointed by Government. 2. Th\t the Teal sba'l be, the production of not less than 5 tons of dressel fibre. 3. Taking tho present cost of turning out fibre to b^ JC IS at ship's side. If the Oomnvs^ieners are satisfied by the above test that the price 8 induces the coat of laying srood dressed fibre, equal to superior Welling on down at ships side to £7 103 (or half the present cost, that they sba't r commend that the Sim of £7,500 b^ pai 1 to tha inven 1 tor by Government and such or any royalty (that they may think fit) shall be charged per ton from thoee who use the process by the inventor 4 If the process reduce the cost at ship's side fr.>in £15 (present cost) to any sura i>er ton be'w«en th* £15 £7 10,s Then tha Commissioner! nviv award en oh portion of the £7,500 as th<*y may consider the re 1 du'tion to be proportionately equal to. 5. If the Commissioners are satisfied that besides (he above con* ditions being complied with that the process has very materially (by say equal to £10 a ton) improved the qimli'y of dressed fibre, they may recommend that an additi-.ua' £2500 h n paid to the inventor by Govern* m°nt togptlipr wiMi such or any royal y they may think fit to be paid by the mors of the process to the inventor. 6.
