• Our readers will rememb-r the account sent from America of the dis. astrous bursting of a dam near Pre?. cott, Arizona, N. S. early in the present year. The occurrence caused the loss of many scores of lives, and swept away houses, homesteads, and other substantial build-
ings. A fact respecting the disaster 1 has come to hand which is worth re* cording. A messenger sent to warn the inhabitants of the valley below the dam of their danger, stopped at a drinking saloon, got intoxicated and so failed to deliver his message. Had he given the warning the terrible loss of l.fe which occurred would have beeu averted. A. second messenger, who tried to repair the criminal neglect of the first died in the attempt to faithtuily acquit himself of his dangerous task.
