Mr Kerr, resuming the- debate on the motion for Committee of Supply and Mr Balance's amendment thereto, condemned the Government for not putting up a man to man in the debate, ami said it wai not *' what he called fair shooting "" Mr Hobbs spo!»e. The motion that the House go into Committee of Supply was then put and then carried by 3H to H'J, Mr Ballanee's amendment being lost. The Home resumed lit 7. HO. Mr Ikyce said that .Mi' TJallanee's am 1 endment had placed h m in i.onsidevable. diflicultv, as he had intended, and still intended, to critise (ho tinauical policy of the Government, but he thought it his duty t ■ oppose ji-iy want of confidence motion brought forward by Mr ]>allnnce Hnd supported by liis party, let the con* sequences be what they might. Mr BalIn nee in his speech had not shown in any degree how further retrenchment could be .■ffected ; in fact he could uol do -so, as it \as altogether foreigu to his nature. He nad made a good deal of the fact that the Premier was outside the House, but he omitted lo state that there was the leader of the. Opposition also outside the House, and he (A-JrTJryee), thought the unimdment had been drafted by that leader. The debate was adjourned at 11.55 on Mr Cowan's motion, and the house rose. Messrs . Hutrliinson and Fergus also ipoke.
