The Mayor requested Cr .Tonson to hold over the matter for a short time until funds came in, which were daily expected. The Mayor said he had passed the fencing contract on the Reserve. He wanted to ask Councillors whether it would not be as well to have a plan of the reserve, showing how much was to be kept 'closed, and how muoh was to be let. Another question was that at the northern boundaries the fences were not very good. It was finally decided to have a plan of the property prepared. The Mayor desired that some one should be empowered to clear about 50 chains of drains on the ferry road. He thought it would cost about ninepence a chain. Cr Jonson understood that the Mayor had said that there was no money to spare at present. Cr Jenks proposed and Cr Jonson seconded, That the drain along the Wirokino ferry road be cleared out, and that the Mayor be appointed to see the work done. — Carried. REPORT ON EEERY. The Mayor said the ferryman had recommended levers to the flaps in the punt, and a sheath shou d be supplied. He said the expenses could not exceed £5. The approach on the south side must be altered, and something wants doing to the approach on this side of the liver. Mr Hillary stated that the new punt had not made an eighth of an inch of water in ten days. The heaviest, load he had had on the punt was seven tons, and she behaved entirely satisfactory. The punt has not yet bet n taken over. The report furnshed by Mr Nye on tha new punt was read. It stated that the work had been fairly carried out and completed in time. Extra braces had been put in Being unable only to get a portion of galvanised spikes, wire nails had to be used. The punt has cost £136 11s 4d. There were 300 feet of timber left over. C- Jonson said that nearly the whole of the bottom of the punt was nailed with ■wire nails. When in Weilington he had seen at Mills' shop kegs of galvanized nails, and they are always kept for ships decks. Ewbank nails should have been used in preference to wire, nails. He expected that in live yeavs time the bottom would all want re-nailing. Mr Nye had specified that all joints should be broken, this had not been carried out. In the flaps all the joints are connected. He considered it his duty to speak about the matter. It was i too late to do anything now. •j It \< as resolved that Mr Nye get the j needful conveniences done to the new punt. 1 The usual notices striking a rate of Is ! 3d in the £ for the Borough, and a Library rate of Ad in the £ be made, and payable on the 3rd June. — Carried The Clerk brought up the question of a man suffering from asthma.
