Barber, butcher, of Lambtou Quayon Tuesday (says the Pout), slaughtered a bullock with an abnormally large kidney, the weight of which, including the fat, was' no less than 1021bs. The beast itself, which was grown ib the Carnarvon District, was by no means a big bullock. It turned the scales at sc\vt., amd was perfectly healthy and free from the slightest blemish. Mr E. Holloway, the foreman ol Mr Barber's shop, states that it is only oue beast in a million which is possessed of a balloon kidney, as the phenomenon is designated on account of its peculiar shape, and in the London market the fat, because | of its hardness and density, would, he avers, readily sell for Is per Ib. It is intended to freeze the oleaginous mass and ship it Home, where it will doubtless act as a good advertisement for the Colony, as showing what New Zealand pastures are capable of turning out in the shape of butcher's meat. "Is marriage a failure ? " Theiv's evidently is. " She did't care about living with him," and " he did't want to live with her." " You are a pair of young fools," taid the Magistrate. At the court-martial held at Sydney, Allan, a second-class petty-officer of H.M.S. Egeria, accused of taking part in the mutiny among the men, was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. Another case will be heard to-morrow, and live more on Saturday. Mr D. Christie Murray is in Napier engaged writing a comedy drama, the scenes of wlush ar» laid in Otago.
