- o £10,000 REWARD OFFERED. RESULT OF HEMPMILLERS' ASSOCIATION DEPUTATION. It will be remembered that at the last meeting of the New Zealand Hempmillers' A spociation it was resolved to ask the Government to offer a substantial reward for the discovriiy of a machine to dreas the green flax well and economically. The Association communicated with Mr J. G. Wilson, the member for. the district, and asked him to lecure an interview with the Premier, which, with hie usual attention to the requests of his constituents ha arranged for and went down with the members Hnd saw the Premier yesterday at Wellington. The results we hart been corteoualy furnished with hy telegram. The Premier promised tn« deputa* tion to place £10,000 (ten thousand pounds) on the estimates, as a r«- --' ward for the discovery of a better machine or. process for the economic dressing offlitx. The Premier at once cabled to the Agent General that (he Government intend doing so. The Premier also stated that the Government, recognising th« imp *• tance of the hemp trade, was prr* pared to assist in any way in its I power this industry ; and invited 1 suggestions from those interested iv it. The deputation was also well re* » ceived by the Wellingfon Chamber of Commerce ; and Mr Gardner made on exhaustive statement of the situa* tion. The Chairman of the Chamber seated that probably freight* would be reduced The Chairman also made the following important statement, thut ho had received a cablegram from London that d.iy that the prospects were rcore hopsful than they hurt been for, some months, although he knew a large numb -r oi bhipa hud just arrived laden with hemp. j
