Mannamatu Herald. TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 1890. The New Electorate.

■»■ ■■ »■ Today we publish the boundaries of the new electorates of Palmerston, and Rangitikei In the shuffle that has taken place we oan look upon the present position as being very muoh as "as you were before you *Mi"m ftt FftlmtritoA elwtortt*

very closely resembles the first Manawatu County, un old electoral district. It little matters whether the name of the n w district is "Foxton or Palmerston, but it certainly would have bnen more in keeping, to have r chris ened it, Manawatu There is much to be th nkfnl for in the Commissioners allowing the electo s to be voters in purely country constituency, and keeping the interests of this arge -'istrict compact. The fite of the Manaw tv lech»rat«? is much to be regretted, as it ha now h«v»n divided amo gst its neighbours, and the arrangements are most inconvenient to allow of Mr Macarthur obtaining a seat. We think his exclusion from Parliament would be most unfortunate, as he has had a lengthy experience in it, and last session was undoubtedly a prominent figure. Our member, Mr J, G. Wilson is to be congratulated in securing his old district, with the additions of others which will not outweigh the support he has secured. If any member does desire to contest the seat, he will have tobea country resident and we Bhall be spared the spectacle of a town's .man, previous to an election, endeavouring to per. suade himself that he is deeply interested in the. country. For our part we feel perfectly satisfied with our position, and as we had to add to our numbers, are glad that it has been by joining those with whom we have for 8 o many years, worked hand in hand. -with.
