Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting of the Borough Council was lie d at the Library building on Monday the 10th fflsrtatffc at 7 p in. Present— The i*layor', and Grs Cob, Jenks, Furrie, McMillan, JoDßon and T. P, Wil«. Jiaros. The minutes of thf previous niaeting were read and c m&TJned, CORRESPO VDENCK . From Dr Foot regretting; his in* ability to accept appointment of put'*lie vaeeinafcor as he thought of leaving in a month. The following resolutions were passed. That the resolution relating to letting public recreatidr reserve, passed at last meeting be rescinded *nd tenders be called for leasing the game to be in by 7th April. The following tenders ion work were opened. Gravelling:— C. Nelson, 27s 6d per chain and 6d royalty ; H. Coley, 82s 6d per chain with royalty ; S. Howan, 40s per chain with royalty. Carting — W. loangley horse and dray, 10s per day, ; extra horse 4a ; 0. Spring, horse audjiray, 9s 5d per day. . , T .;* Proposed by the^ Mayor : and seconded by Cr Coe— shat . . the resolution passed at 9th July 1888 agreeing to let resident carters the work of the Borough be rescinded and th« tender of Cha*les Spring for doing the carting of the Borough at 9s 5d per day be accepted. Special Meeting. ' The ininules of the previous" mccL ing were read and confirmed, and the following resolution was passed. Thairthe l>y-law for carts and carters be eonfirined-and jbhat the said by-law shall comeinto force on the lltlj. day of March 1890. Ordinary Mektin'« . Clearing Drain. The following tenders were received :- -John Ghiei in, 140 chains at Is 9d a chain ; John Guerin, 160 chains at 2i>'. a chain ; C. Adin, whole work for Is && a chain ; A.Oldfield, whole work for Is 10d a chain ; Ingram & Scanlon: whole work for 2s a chain ; Wray & Collins whole work for Is 6d a chain. It wat roiolved that the tender of C Adin bo accepted for draiu *rork. CrJonson enquired if the g.ravel forth* foot path* had been got out. . The Mayor said it had not. Cr Jenks wanted to know the cost of timber for the punt. It was resolved — That J, Guerin bt 1 allowed £;"> to clean the draiu from Neylon's to the river. ' it waa proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Coe— That the, quarterly subsidy of £5 lor maintenance of road to Kereru due 81 si March bo paid to the Horowhenua County Council. Or Williams objected to any payment until the gate on the road was removed . The Council went into Committee. On resuming the ordinary m eeting the following resolutions were passed. That a meeting of this Council be held on Friday at 7 p.m. to enquire into reported neglect of ferryman re stranding oi the punt and other oharges also to hear rt report .water supply. That tenders be called for building the punt for Wirokino ferry in ac* cordance with, plans and specifications andthis Council meets Tuesday the 18th at 7 p.m. for the purpose of ac cepting the same. That^he tender of . H. Coley be accepted for the metalling on the Wirokino road. That those persons who paid the licensing fee for their carts for last year be exempt for the ensuing ydar'..provided they comply with the conditions of the pretent by law. The clerk said he was in hopes the wou'd have given some consideration to the salary he was getting. He had got in a large ameunt of eld outstanding rates and licenses. . The responsibility was en* titled to a better salary. The Mayor said he believed he had rather neglected this/ matter. He suggested that an extra £IQ, might be given for certan duties he did. He wou'd be gad to more that he got an e-.t'.a £10. >v The Mayor in reply to a "question said the inspector of Nuisances at Palmer9ton got £10 a year. Cr Jenks wondered how the outside people would take it. The Mayor moved that the Town Clerk's salary be increased £10. Cr Furrie seconded. Cr Williams sai<l-itr represented an increase in two years of £2Q, fo that we should soon get rid of ohrratef. The Mayor waa in hope that the resolution would hay« passed without questiou. He believed that the work had been done and hearts well worth the money. It was a great thing for the Mayor to have au efficient Town Clerk. On being put to the rote and a division being taken Crs Jenks, Ooe. Jonson, Furrie and the Mayor voted for, and Ora Williams and Mo Mi lan against the resolution. The other resolutions passed were . That the clerk's increase of salary fee taken, £5 from ferry account, £8 from Public reserves account, and £2 fro m library account . That the cleric be instructed to procure 6 copies of the Licensing Act. Accounts passail for payment/
