The ordinary monthly meeting of this council was bald on Tuesday, when there were present— ty Bansom (chairman), McLennuß, Samoa, Saxon.- ; Mitchell, Robinson, Hammond,) and McKenzie " • Tin minutas of tke previous maeting having beeu read and confirmed, the fol- . lowing correspondence wa* read and dealt with-; — ■• 'VFrom J. O. Wilson, MH:;R., referring to the interview* he had with officials while in Wellington recently with regard to -subsidies paid ana payable to the county, and the si>.le of theUrarnway to the Government. He thought, however, that there was very little probability of the tramway being taken over by the Government, but suggested that it might be taken on certain conditions. Propoeed by Cr Sanaon, seconded by Cr I McLonnan, and carried, " That the county solicitor be authorised to settle the matters in dispute' between 'thin council and the Horowhenna Counoil, re ferries, on the terms indicated by Mr Hanking to the council." .• . . • • ' •/ In resuming, . after lunch, the council went into special meeting to consider byelaws relating to slaughter houses, and on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Ov McLenuarr, it wa3 resolved", "That t i lause,.No. 4, in byelawNo. 2, rej»lat ; ng die use of slaughter houses, be amended, mid that the fee for new licenses be £1 per annmn, or any portion thereof' and that £1 per year be charged for renewals, and that clause 6 bo -repealed. y next meeting of the council." On the motion of Cr Bansou, seconded by Cr Eobinson, it was resolved, " That the attention of Mr J). M. Brookes be called to the bad state of repair the engine and line are represented to be in by Mr Bray, and that he be requested to attend to the matter without delay." Proposed by Cr Sanson, and seconded by Saxon, ("That the Sandon-Carnarvon tramway be offered to! the Government for £4,000, the same to be allowed to stand against the amount owing to the Government for money obtained under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, on condition that they run at the least one tram on each of the three days a week, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to Mr Wilson, with a letter asking him to make t-ie said offer to the Government, and to do what he can for the council in the matter." — Carried. It having been reported that Mr Birchley had laid (a tramway en the main road at Moutea, it .was -resolved to write and ask him on whose authority he had laid it there. The Council fthen adjourned to the 4th of March.— -Advooat*.
