Manawatu County Council

The ordinary monthly meeting of the council was held yesterday at Sanson, when there were present : — Crs Ransom (chair), McLennan, Sanson, Saxon, Mitchell, Robinson, Hammond, and McKenzie. The treasurer's report showed the county fund account, Dr., £960 19s 1d. The ridings were in credit to the following amounts— Sandon, £112 3s ; Mount- Stewart, £177 18s 1d ; Waitohi, £15 5s 11d ; Campbell £431 9s 7d; Carnarvon, £82 2s 9d ; Kawa Kawa £203 13s 7d; Awahou, £74 4s The cash at bank being in excess of the county overdraft, the county were paying no interest at present. It was decided to return the ac count rendered by the Foxton Town Clerk, on account of a patient taken to the Wanganu! Hospital, with a memo referring Mr Gibson to the District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. A ledger account was granted to Mudford Bros. during the pleasure of the council. Cr Sanson reported, on behalf of the committee appointed to confer with the county solicitor, and Mr Brooks and his solicitor, that a satis factory arrangement had been ar rived at with regard to the responsibility of collection of accounts with the tramway, and on the motion of the Chairman report was adopted. The following resolutions were passed : — On the motion of Cr Robinson seconded by Cr Mitchell, it was resolved, — "That the name of J. Fatherley be placed on the rate roll instead of T. Harvey, for section 4 Douglas Block. Proposed by the Chairman, and seconded by Cr McLennan, "That the clerk obtain all necessary collars from Mr H. Sanson, junr,. if he will supply them at the same price as he supplies them to other local bodies." —Carried. Proposed by Cr McLennan, seconded by Cr Sanson, and carried— " That the amount of dog tax for 1890 be 10s per dog within the county, and that a rebate of 5s be allowed to dll persons who pay their tax by 1s April, and tax be payable at the county office, Sanson during office hours." Proposed by Cr Sarison, seconded by Cr McLennon and carried,— "That a special meeting be held at 2 p.m. on the first Tuesday in February next for the purpose of makin a new bye-law regulating the fees to be charged to slaughter house lioe.f'S-. Tenders were then offered as follows :— scrub clearing on on Oroua Bridge Road—Myers and Smith, 2

9d per chain ; E Loyd, 3s ; W. Greig 2s 6d per chain (accepted ) ;B. and G. Marsh, 13s per chain (informal). Metalling Banks line —L. Richards £8 per chain (accepted) W. Greig, £4 ; J. McCall, £3 3s ; J. H. Anderson, £4. Frecklington's Line— J. McMillan, £1 13s 9d per chain ; C. H. Richards. £1 (accepted). Swainson's Line—F. L. Behrendt, £1 18s ; J. McCall £2 5s ; L. Mishards £1 10s (accepted); S. Coker, £1 17s 6d ; J. H. Anderson, £2 10s ; B. and G. Harsh, £2 5s (no deposit). Side cutting Oroua Bridge— W. Greig, 8s 6d (accepted) ; J. H. Anderson, 9d per chain), 0. Bjgley. Tompkin's Lane— T. Harvey, 12s 9d per chain (accepted), C. Risley. 12s 9d ; Corkill and Monteith, 12s 11d. There being no difference between the two first named tenderers in this contract it was decided in favour of Mr Harvey on account of his being a ratepayer. „ No tender for metalling Rosina Line wa9s accepted. Cr Sanson get the following resolution paused :—"That contractors end others doing work for the council be informed by a notice in the Advocate that cheques and vouchers be ready for claimants after seven days from each council meeting. On the motion of Cr Saxon, secorded by Cr Sanson, it was resolved "That the sum of £12 be granted for putting in a culvert and lowering the cutting on Lee's line. The work to be completed before next meeting of the council. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr McKenzie, "That tenders be called for metalling 30 chains on the Taipo Awahuri road, starting from Banks' Waitohi-line, towards Awahuri, tenders to be in by noon at next meeting of this Council. The overseer was instructed to repair Campion's-road, and to call for tenders for lowering the cutting at Hakanui ford and metalling about six chains of the same. Accounts were passed for payment, and the council then adjourned to February 4th.— Abridge from Advocate.
