» MANAWATU SUMMER MEETING. The Boxing Day meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club was very successful. The w« atlwr held fine, although the moinipg looked threat ening. Paul's Foxton (Collelo) . . 2 Mr W. Wilson's Eclat' 1 ... 3 Brown Duke, Oddfellow, "Weka, Thyme and Peter nlso started. C uiser and Retrenchment -were scratched. From a splendid -start Brown Duke momentarily held the lead, but was quickly replaced by Weka, who went off at a terrific pace, and soon left her; field half a dozen lengths behind. Past the stand the first. time Weka was in the lead, with Brown Duke second, and Montrose and Eclat th* most promi* nent of the others. At the end of a mile Montrose took up the running, and Eclat, Brown Duke and Weka were his most immediate attendants No change took place till the bend was reached, when Brown Duke and Weka fell away, and Eclat made a bold bid, and was closely followed by Fexton. Entering the straight Montrose was leading Eclat by a length, and Foxton, was -coming up fast on the outside. Thence to the finisk ensued a grand race. Mon* trose contrived to hold his lead to the finish, although £c!at was past his quarters all the way, and Foxton. was coming very fast. Time, V3inin 9sec. Dividend. £3 17s. Somnus PuoDuei! Cup. Mr F. Stevens' Endymipn . . 1 Mr E. Obeli's The Tanker . . 2 Mr J. Cotter's Ajax . . . . 8 Retrenchment was scratched. This was simply an exercise canter for Endymion, who won in a common canter by half » dozen lengths. Time, 3min 3sec. Dividend £1 ss. Handicap Hack Raoi. Mr R. Roake's Kathleen ' :" ,% 1 Mr Adsett's Rosebud .. A 2 Christmas and Venosta.alsq ran. Won after an exciting race between Venoata and Kathleen by the former, who, however, ran inside a post, and che stakes were awarded to Kathleen, Christmas Tan intjo a post and fell. Dividend, £7 13. Tradesmen's Havdic/p. Mr Chapman's Montrose . . .1 Mr Wilson's Eclat .'. \. 2 Mr Campion's Cruiser ... .. 3 Boulanger also started; Rewa Rowa Thyme and Peter were scratched. Montrose was first to show in front closely followed, by Eclat and Crui er, BouLihger being last to move. This order was maintained till the home turn was reached when Cruiser and Boulangev made a forward move, but the latter immediately afterwards ran inside a post and was pulled up. At the top of the straight Cruiser was alongside Eclat, who was a length behind Montrose A good race homo resulted in Montross winning^ by a length, Eclat a similar distance ahead of Cruiser. Time, 2min 15sec. Dividend, £3 Bs. A protest was entei*ed against the winner on the ground of his having run inside a post, ' but on consideration $ th« Stewards disallowed it.— M. Times
