BATHING ACCIDENT.
A correspondent sends us tire following- i articulars : — A very narrow psfispo from drowning 1 occurred in tho Manawatu r'ver nt Paiaka on Thursday evening last. It appears that several of the hands employed at Mr Gardner's mill -were bathing as usual about 7 30 in the evening, and three 'or four of them liad swum across t ; :e river and back and on returning one of them named Moorbouse suddenly threw up his hando and cried for help. Mr Cmnell who was" on the bank just preparing to dress, hearing the cry instantly jumped in and succeeded in reaching Moorhouse just as he had gone under for the second tiar\ Reaching down and seizing him by the hair he put him on his back and in this way succeeded in reaching a willow snag that was growing a little way from the bank and tlxero put him in safety unt 1 a canoe came aiid took him ashore This we believe is the third life Mr Connell has saved from a watery grave' and it will be reinem bered by "many he was the recipient of the Eoyal Huma'ie ; Society's' award some two years ngo for saving the life of Mr Woodham.
