THE SPORTS.

The sports held yesterday passed off very satisfactorily and gave an a fcernooa'u good sporr. Theptdv'o-'k a joining the public hnll was the scene of the conte t having beefc obligingly lent by Messrs Biadcock aud Guy, coach proprietors. A marque was era-ted .where refresh in n s w rd tended by Mr Beid, but we d » not think he did a very extensive T?nsiness. The attendance was very encouraging, though many large pi n cs were also beiug held, the money taken at the gates amounting to £11 8s 6d. The officers worked with awil, as early in the morning Messrs T. P. Williams, Rhodes. McMillan, Bradcock, McAhVer, T. Brebner and 'Ibynne were on the ground, and everything was in readiness before the spores commenced. The racing was good, the entries, as will be noticed were good, and no hitch o"cured worth mentioning, exepptthe act of a big ; competitor in the obstae'e race who •mfi'iirlv pulled young Walls tack on* a tub he was crawHng through Tlie starter Mr McMillan pnve every satisfaction, and the re-Mary Mr Rlvdes was hard at work Mr ■Williams took the post of Judge* and was general-y useful every where. The bind d'd their best to enMven the day with music, on'y rude Boreas pi-evaiied over

them, by blowing all sounds emitted away from every one. In book's straits passing vessel < probably obtained the advantage which the Committee hoped to secure for their patrons. Ih the evening the band supplied a tune or two and assisted material y in drawing a good house to F oley's entertainment A dance at the l-all completed the d*yV fun. It is satisfactory to record the com* plete sue e^e of the efforts of those wh i endeavoured, rather late in the d»y, to provide an innocent day's sport on a public -holiday. 1.
