YORK FARM HORSE SALE.
_. The sale oi horses at York F«»rm yesterday brought together one of "h largest gatherings of the kind that has assembled in the district for some yeai\-». Probably the announcement that there would be no reserve had much to do with the Siitisfiicto y attendance, as well as the excel*-n-.. class of horses to be submitted to auction. The sale was
held in tb€ large ; building in *vbich Me Uie stables, and in whieli, also the machinery is kept, and, although provision was made for a large attendance, there was not room enougli "within that part of the building whi< h was devoted to the boi se fair to accomodate all. The bicld ng was on the whole, bri>k and excellent prioes were • btaine-d. Dr BeDnec secured a bay mare by Anteros, and in foal to Boss for £10, and a dark bay mare by Patriarch, out of hanjja ira, with a toal by Ross atloo% for £12 A two-year-old chesttiut filly, by Ascot. b^pUiht £9JOs, Mr.. T G. W. f*^^npa^be^g^the <>fl bnyer, and a ***Xwd ye#Ptfld My s fiily also by Ascot, fetched £8. A mare, aged which distinguished itself by winning, the Idaidtn at Wanganui, and which was in foal o Matai, was knocked down nr for £7,. and another, D»y Dawn, • r jjvibich(|a(i won Mr Gibbons' cup and jjjw^A fyal to §oVs,,brought £1 1 12s 6a. A nice yearling col ,by Ma'ai, dam, an pawa mare, went to Mr A. Howie for *5< 2s 6d., and, after a spirited compet tion, a two-year-old bay filly, by Remiugton dam, Ean-gritn-a, was bought by Mr Wi liam H-.immond. Mr Biddil'ord gave £5 15s for a promising young yearling l/.csqlt by Boss; Mr Howie jraid £5 5b for another yearing, and the next .respectable figure was secured for a three-year-old filly, which brought £13 ss. A six yi ar old draught mare was run up by rapid bids to £20 10s, and Mr W Hammond got old Ra- gitira, by ''radncer, and in foal to Koss, for i 20 10s. A 5 > earold, by Matai, dam a Duncan Gi ey mare, bi ought £15; a bay geldiug, ,6 years old, by Patriarch, aiid foaled by a Day Dawn mare was knocked down to Mr Grigg for £26 ss; ai d a black gelding, 4 years o'd, by Matai, ieicued £16 10s. Tiie only other sales of note was that oi Matai — the sire of some of the best youngsters sold— by Totaia— dam Lind; to Mr Potts fir £88, ' "Mtn^'j ostf; -'fcy Anteros, f r £42, 10 Mr Wm hammoud Col Gorton conducted th>* ssle in his us al abta manmr, and obtaiued full m rktt value for all anima s submitted. — Advocate
