BABY FARMING AT SYDNEY.
An extraordinary case of farming was brought to light m connection with an inquest ou tho body of an infant named Ethel Kay Archibald of Waverley, The infant had been for some tinte under ihe care of a ;• Mrsßatfe by whom children wore . taken into miree. A report handed in by the po ice showed that the w*/tnan had had 12 infants entrusted 'ib he* care dii'ring the" last 1 1 m onths, smd of this number 10 had di d. Just irior to the opening of the inquest it was reported that the eleventh child Amy Br s el, had also died: therefore both cases were taken. 'She jury on visiting Batfc's ■house found the bodies of the two dftad children, one lying on a pillow on the table and one laid out in a coffin, whi'e a third baby — the last, of 12 ■■— was on a ltt>d in an apparently a dying condition. The borlies of the two dead children, as well as that of the sick irtiaut, where in a fearfully emaciated condition. .Mrs Hatts, who , ' is a marrid woman liviu j apart from her husband, stated she got £io to . adopt the child Archibald, and re- ■ ceived 10s per week for keeping Amy Bressel. The medica' evidence showed the former child was exceedingly poorly, nourished, and that the intestines were free from all trace of food. There had not bften time to examine the second child that- died.
