SOMNUS. (TE KAHURANGI) FINDING there is a strong feeling to retain the services of Somnus in this District, and wishing to use him ourselves | to a greater extent than before, the Pio- j prietors have arranged to send the son of •'The Painter" to Hswke's Bay. where he will serve at a fee of Seven Guineas for Thoroughbreds, and Five Guineas forOrossbreds. The Celebrated Thoroughbred Champion Prize winner. SOMNUS (sire of Dudu, F<'X.'on, Cyclone, Minnie, Waiter and a best of other most promising youngßters, some of which will, no doubt, in the coming raoing season afford additional proof of the value of this first class sire) will j therefore stand at the Propiietors* stud stables, Feilding, this season, commencing Monday, the 2nd September. Wo have stuck to S mnus, because on his size, breeding, peiformances, and beautiful symmetry, we believed he was destined to become a Great Horse ;and we have no doubc whatever now, that liko his illurtti ions sire ''Traducer," and the great " M uuker," Somnns inherits that great power pußsotsßed by so few sires, of transmitting his excellent qualities to his progeny, that we mean to stick to him still, notwithstanding the tempting overtures that have been made for him, not in New Zealand (because he was bred here), but from America, where his old stable companion and near relation, " Sir Modred," has attained such a high reputation as(a Sire, and from other parts of the world where the fame of Somnus has reached. We did intend to charge a fee of Ten Guineas all round this season, but from representations made by some of our friends that they were unable to pay so much for Hack mares, we have decided to reduce the fee on the following scale,] viz. : — Ist Class Thoroughbreds, Ten Guineas. Class C, Seven Guineas. A limited number of good Hick mares, Five Pounds ten shillings. Paddooking (if required) 2» per week. Choice marea can be fed as per agreement. Guarantees as per agreement. Allowance made for two or more mares, the property of one owner. Mares left at the Proprietors' Homestead, Foxton, will be forwarded to Feilding free of cost. To insure service, early application should be made. The paddocking accommodation is spe- ; cially provided for breeding purposes, the wet and dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered paddocks. Owners sending mares in foal can rely upon the greatest possible care being taken at foaling time, and proper time of service.
