MARRIAGE OF MR J.L. OLIVER AND MISS PENNYCOCK.
From Hawick Advertiser of 22nd June, 1889. tin Wednesday last the marriage of Mr James Lindsay Oliver, of Okaua. Foxton, New Zealand, third son, of the late Mr George Oliver, Borthaugh, writer and banker in Hawiok, to Miss Agnes TSUen Penny^ cook, only daughter of the late Mr Peter Pennycook of Newhall, Roxburg3hire, and Lochlands, ForfarslAre, 1 was solemnised in Hobkirk Church. The officiating ministers were (he Rev. A. C. Macphail, as--Biated f by the Eev. Dr Mair, Southdean, aud the Rev. Mr Watson, Hownara. Mr Clrant, Hawick, acted as organist. The bride was escorted up the aisle oy her uncle, Mr H. Elliot, and, given away by her mother. She was attired in a rich white corded silk dress embroidered with silver, and train of the same material lined with satin, tulle veil and spray of orange blossom. She was attended, by "five bridesmaida— Missea Scott (2) Miss Turabull, Edinburg, Mig? Turnbull, Briery-yards, and Miss Oliver, Borthaugh. Three of the bridesmaids wore white pongee silk with green facings and small' flower bats, each had a bouqnet ; two wore white liberty cashmeres, with green sashes and large hats, and carried a basket of flowers. Each of the bridesmaids wore a, gold; padlock bange with initafa ana date, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr Ales. Gordon, Arbroath, cousin of the bridegroom, acted as best man. There were a large number of friends of both sides present ; besides the guests a good number turned out to witness the ettemony. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers for the odioteion. After the completion of the service the marriage party returned to Greenriver, whero they w,er,e,^o«jntably entertained by Mrs PVnnycook and Mr Elliot in a large qtarquee erected on the green. At sp.m. the happy pair left amidst answers of tice, ic. en route for the Continent to spend their honeymoon. A;t each of the entrance gates to Greenriver arches of evergreens were erected and flags were flying. In the afternoon Mr Elliot entertained his form workers and others to a sumptou| dinner, and in the evening there was a dance.
