THE JUSTICES MEETING.
To-morrow a meeting of the Justices of the Peace has been convened by his Worship the Mayor We earnestly hope that it will not be allowed to close without an energetic protest against the police administration of this dis rict. At present it goes without saying that one constable, however good a man he may be, is utterly useless as a protection against the numbers of bad characters that are in our midst, and it becomes further absurd to find that a very large part of his time is occupied in not police duty at all, but as acting bailiff in civil cases. We desire to harm no man, and we have done our best to obtain assistance, by agitating for another constable ; but if another constab'e is not to be obtained, wd trust the Magistrates will insist on the police being kept to purely polioe duties- and obtain the oppointment of a proper bailiff to the Court. t !
